Laronix makes Electronic Voice Prosthesis

Founding Year: 2019
Location: Gold Coast, Australia
Partner for: Artificial Voicebox
Industry: Healthcare

Australian startup Laronix builds Bionic Voice, a wearable electronic voice prosthesis for larynx amputees. It substitutes and regenerates the missing voice source for the laryngectomees. The device consists of a pressure sensing module that monitors respiration through a patient’s stoma. An artificial intelligence (AI)-based software model of vocal folds uses these respiration readings to produce the patient’s voice. With time, the AI module improves the quality of the voice, so that it sounds closer to the patient’s own. Moreover, as the system is naturally controlled by respiration, it is more convenient than other electronic voice prostheses.

LociLabs enables Contact Tracing

Founding Year: 2019
Location: England, UK
Partner for: Social Distancing
Industries: SocialTech, Healthcare

LociLabs is a British startup that enables contact tracing with its suite of wearable devices. The startup’s devices, including includes watches, badges, and cards, use ultra wide-band (UWB) radio-based technology to measure the time of flight (ToF) of radio signals between units. Its proprietary SafeSpace technology then provides triggers — audio, visual, or vibrating alerts — when it detects a distance less than 2 meters. The real-time feedback allows users to re-establish a safe distance of greater than 2 meters. SafeSpace finds application in health facilities, retail outlets, and workplaces, where it enables social distancing according to Covid-19 regulations.
